Need some help with a 05 Foreman

Need some help with a 05 Foreman

Postby FITZ on Mon Sep 29, 2008 10:55 am

Well after a AWSOME weekend at BIGWOODS my bike started blown out a light haze of blueish smoke. My oil is good. I think my fan stopped working too. Anyone got any ideas or can lead me in the right direction with what to do with this thing or whats wrong with it? Thanks :(

If the fan stopped coming on the first suspect is a clogged oil cooler. It happened on my brother in laws foreman. He said it was clean but upon close examination it was packed with mud. We soaked it and the fan came back on & no more overheating.

My only other experience with a honda fan was when the wire pulled loose from temp sensor on the rincon. My skid plate was nearly gone, went riding through some tall reeds next thing you know no fan & overheating. Well got to a clearing looked underneath & found the loose wire.

Its probably something simple, hope this helps Fitz.

also check your fan fuse in the fuse box under the seat. If the fan tries to come on while in the water it can blow the fuse.

So could the smoke be from it overheating due to the fan not working?

Thanks guys!

does your oil temp light work if so did it come on? If not It may have not of overheated. I know some of the older hondas like the 450's would cut off by themselves if they got too hot. I have never had my 05 500 foreman to that point, but I feel like that is a feature they would carryover. The blue smoke I don't know about.

Everyone is trying to avoid telling you this but the smoke is probably going to be rings. I wouldn't stop riding it or anything but make sure to check your oil more frequently than you have been. Then just keep oil in it until either you replace the rings or it starts smoking so badly that you can't breathe while you ride

It depends on just how much it is smoking. It could just be runnin really rich. Pull your plug and see if it is really black and has alot of build up.

Well we broke down the top end last night and found that the piston shrunk. We are guessing it was over heating and the sensors for my fan and oil temp light are cloged with dirt and causing my fan not to come on nor the light. Not sure when ill be up and running again..... :(

Pork chop you need someone to sit at the gate with you? lol.....if so looks like i can do it for awhile
